bad fm radio reception

Post by roycas » Sun May 21, 2017 7:58 am

Hi, this is my first post, and a very frustrating one. My FM radio reception is really bad, i have changed the diversity unit [ central locking is perfect , checked the rad-on voltage, that is also good, i changed the tuner module, on the ccc and the original problem remains. its that bad that I've had a bmw dab module installed. my question is this. is it possible to install a duel am, fm dab antenna on the roof, and do away with the diversity antenna altogether but keep the diversity module powered so the central locking keeps working ??

got the same prob for over 18 month now, still haven't found a fix yet. Which diversary module have you changed and was it a new or second hand one.

it was second hand one but the problem is exactly the same with both.
I'm thinking about just fitting a standard roof arial. can you do that?

What state are the aerial elements on the near side rear window in?  Any sign of corrosion/breaks or wiring connection issues?

Could it still be 2 faulty dirersity modules. Iv changed rear window, ccc unit, interferance module in roof. My car has nothing in either rear side windows. Think the rear side windows are for tv and dab.

Roycas.
What's your radio signal like when you just put the key in the slot and don't push start button. Then try putting the ignition on.
Mines signal is perfect with just key in soon as ignition is turned on signal more a less halfs.

Hi russ
I have noticed that the radio signals are stable. Even with the engine running, soon as I start moving about, especially  in Nottingham, most of my radio stations vanish !!!! I only seem to keep the strong ones

Has there been any recent change in where your radio stations come from?  There is some replanning going on (as there is with DAB and DTV) so a transmitter site may have either gone off or been reduced in power.

The current list for your area should be this:

My VHF FM broadcasts have been resited to a main Tx site 35 miles north of me and now DAB is far better here.

I was contemplating fitting a separate areal when I retrofitted my head unit. You need to find out if your head unit powers the booster via voltage down the coax cable or if it's powered separately.

Thank you for the transmitter info. It seems that my best, uninterrupted signals come from the mapperley ridge transmitter, anything else is very flakey
