X5 air ride
Hey everyone first time posting here, i have a question im hoping someone might be able to help me with
I want to put my x5 on adjustable air ride, ive searched high and low for a kit but cant find any, so this is my plan, my car already has bags on the rear, if i buy a pair of standard air struts for the front and then buy an aftermarket compressor, tank etc could i fit them together? Only diffrence ive found is the standard air lines are 4mm and the aftermarket ones are 6mm but i could just use a reducer? Ive searched high and low for anyone thats done this but it doesnt look like anyone has from what i can see anyway, i know im a show off but i want to be able to park it up and dump it to the ground

Re: X5 air ride
Must be an ex VAG man. I've been on here a while never heard or read of anyone going down this route. Most air ride questions are about how to fix them. Good luck if you go down this road and do keep us informed. Sorry your first post has had a negative response. Maybe someone will chirp up with an answer.

Re: X5 air ride
Air ride is popular in the states in the hot rod/ custom scene.
Gas Monkey garage etc.
There must be sites selling kits on the net from the states, I've seen a sort of coilovers type Air spring on the US wheeler dealers that he fitted to the rear of a pickup truck.
Most people on here with all round air suspension are trying to find ways of getting shut of it though

Least I got something right. Just got rid of my R32, I'll miss it, total reliability. Got the X5 to keep my mechanical skills from fading away

Have a word with a custom shop like the one I’ve put in the post above, they might give you an idea of price to compare with those kits - make sure you check out the fees if you get anything from the USA, I got clobbered for a fortune for a pre-oiler kit I ordered

Just a small point, it would be worth asking if there are any American services personel ( posted to the UK) on the forum who could ship it in for you, that would negate any import fees.
I had a front under spoiler sold to me by a member who did this, unfortunately he has been posted to another country now, but it did work.

Re: X5 air ride
If the vehicle already has air springs, then the height is set by the resistance pot sensors under the vehicle.
If you can tap into the loom feeding these, you could in theory then add another variable resistance to adjust the height.
This will require a working knowledge of electronics to interfere with the ride height at the turn of a knob.
