Anyone With Media Package?

Post by Lyons » Wed Mar 28, 2018 8:46 am

Folks I am in the market for a 2010-12 LCi 30d. One of the options I cant do without is DAB. I have found the brochure online for the 2012 model and the Media Package includes DAB, but does anyone on here have a 2010 or 2011 car with Media Package and can confirm if DAB was included in the early days too?

If not, would anyone even have a copy of the brochure for the 2010/11 car?

There is something in my head that is telling me that DAB was only added to the package later. I may be wrong though!

Thanks.

DAB, my most hated radio stations as they work for 5 minutes before dropping out again. I gave up with it in the end.

2011 Individual Dirac Audio c/w Bluetooth Audio & DAB

I could be wrong, but I think the DAB was std with the Lci upgrade as was Led Angels etc
As mentioned, I find the DAB stations drop out too often

I believe there is three media packages + the Individual Audio
It was a stumbled across option for me, neither I or the salesman was aware, noticeable by the silver speaker surrounds, sound quality is sublime!
Bluetooth media whilst good, the head unit volume has to be turned up to get the initial volume, initially I had thought it wasn’t working though a couple of notches in the volume bring the sound through the 16 speakers

The Dirac system offers crystal clarity, very deep bass when required and surprisingly tuneable, allbeit tweaking is required for different music choices, the Bavsound upgrade is not really comparable..
A bit comical when others advertise the option they simply don’t have as I believe it’s very rare, most likely due to the initial option cost

Thanks folks. DAB is listed as an option on its own in the 2012 brochure, so I dont believe it was standard on all LCi models.

Touring does yours have the Media Package? It definitely doesn't have the aforementioned DAB option fitted? Do you know the option codes on your car?

I agree, my last two vans have had dab and it drives me crazy some days as mentioned it drops out all the time, I revert back to FM after a couple of days on DAB.
It's a shame really because when it works it's good, and I like some of the stations that are not on FM
I wouldn't go to any expense going for DAB over FM

I’ve had DAB in a few cars and have never had any bother. We live out in the sticks too. I couldn’t do without it now.

DAB signals are much weaker than VHF FM, (a few 10s of Watts instead of a few kW) and is particularly bad near the coast with the EU - mainly France because of their TV system being co-channel.  Continental DAB operates in L-band whereas ours is VHF.

I use DAB all the time in our cars and it very rarely drops out, but I’m 100 miles further away from the south and east coast.  It came as standard on my MY2011 X6 with the media package.

I just don't get it - I can't even drive from the south of the M23 to the M25 without losing any channel that I have in my presets.

Or even worse when it drops to FM, which then repeats the last 2 seconds or so over and over again.

It is not even a BMW issue, all the other cars do the same.

It works a bit on the M25 to Heathrow, but take the M3 / M4 and within miles you lose it again.

Your nearest main DAB transmitter is Stoke D’Abernon and it’s only 20W radiated.

Mine (Sandy Heath) is 5kW so the service works very well - but then it’s flat here in the East which helps.  I believe the transmitter is the highest point between itself and the Ural Mountains!

A new rollout is underway (commenced 2016] for your area but none of the transmitters are very high and none exceed 2kW, most are around 100W.  Might be worth regular retuning as additional sites come on stream.

As I said, proximity to French TV channels is the issue, and used to cause all sorts of trouble when I worked in interference tracing in the South East.  Caen was a nightmare in the Summer months.

Lyons, I no longer have the 40d, however it had the media pack, proffesional nav and DAB radio, it was November 2010. All my subsequent X’s have also had DAB
