Driving in France - switching to LHD lights

Post by 911X5 » Fri Jun 29, 2018 10:25 am

Hi

I'll be doing a long road trip in France and need to convert lights to LHD. I have heard this can be done at the flick of a switch but need to take out the front light cluster, which sounds like a pain to do roadside!

Am I just better off getting those stickers?

If you have active xenons, I believe there is a setting in the idrive for it. Not checked on mine though.

I could be wrong - most likely I am
However, if you switch the lights to Auto, the beam pattern flattens, good for either side of the road!

I thought 'Auto' was for auto on/off according to the light conditions?

Not checked the iDrive menu - Mrs has taken car out, but don't recall ever seeing the option...

Some people are talking about a switch in the cluster - will check that too

Apparently after doing a bit of reading, no change required as the adaptive xenons have a flat beam pattern. Will check in the dark tomorrow  8)

Whilst checking “in the dark”
Switch between Auto and position II
You should notice the shutter open and close to give directional pattern or flat beam
It helps if you drive up to a wall

Hence once you’ve jumped the pond use Auto lights only

Well the Auto and 0 position have a flat pattern and the setting at the end of the dial is a dipped pattern. I guess the flat pattern on Auto is fine then!
