Fuel prices rising by the week now it seems

Post by Leslie » Sat Jun 11, 2022 6:05 pm

Have crunched the numbers and I could save £100/month by getting a cheap runabout like an old passat (47mpg) but then you have to factor in tax at £220 plus insurance probably £300 and that's if it doesn't break or need money spending , with a frugal but maybe fragile  corsa Diesel (60 mpg) could save £150 month and £20 tax.
Neither particularly appeals unless a change of job involves a big increase in mileage or the price/litre jumps north of £2 :o

Just back from my local bar here in Greece. Opposite is a fuel station, unleaded tonite is 2.41€ diesel is 'only' 2.12€ ☹

Been here since April so not in sync with UK prices, but they're up and down here like a "whores draws".

The diesel is probably similar to the uk which is around 185p/litre now on average though quite a few are charging a lot more

Just back from Egypt.
Rental car was an MG-5 thing but cost £20 to fill.
Nearly cried thinking about what it would cost back home in the uk.

I paid £1.919 yesterday at my usual Esso. Several outlets around here are above that, even supermarkets. I suspect our local motorway services will be well over the £2.00 point by now.

My location means either 50€ or 100€ at a time when needed. I don't shop around per-se it is what it is, i just avoid the really expensive places.

Based upon what I’m seeing now, my energy costs (gas, elec, diesel) will be hitting £800/month this winter. Not something to look forward to at all!

Drove past earlier this evening.......... £2.079 for standard unleaded and £2.099 for standard diesel. The next one further south is usually even more expensive! :o

Think a lot are in the same boat , for me £300 diesel , 100 electric , 200 heating oil minimum a month in winter and that's without any further price rises :fuelfire: Not hard to see how consumer spending is going to stop for non essentials in the very near future ....

If fuel poverty is when you spend more than 10% of your income on fuel then we are all in it now :headbang:

We could post daily /weekly updates on this for the foreseeable future. Sadly nothing dramatic is going to happen to bring about a significant reduction, we'll have to live with it however unpalatable it is on the wallet :x

Think the government will be under pressure to do something more than the 5p joke they did already if this keeps going :D
