Fuel gauge showing empty

Post by Mgb3405 » Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:19 pm

Hi

My fuel gauge is showing empty and showing zero in the hidden menu. I have attached new senders (both sides) without being in the tank, this had no impact on gauge any thoughts on next steps?

Hello and :hi:

What engine have you got?

Is your battery OK? BMWs can throw all sorts of weird issues when the battery is low or dying. Short journeys in cold weather is a battery killer!

First thought would be wiring between the senders and instrument cluster itself. The wiring for the sensors ends up on the back of the fuse box in the front. Block A4010 and A4010a. Plugs X14271 and X14272. Images for LHD so just reverse them for RHD.

If nothing obvious then it might also be worth having an error code read check done as it may be a module fault. The connections from A4010 go direct to the instrument binnacle (it’s a computer module itself).
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
