Faults

Post by henrym3 » Wed Jan 25, 2023 6:11 pm

While doing my scans I have the fault.
LSZ/LCM (light switching centre)
Dimmer Potentiometer Wire Open.
Are we talking about the dimmer for the instrument cluster lights?
It works and is just a small irritant that a fault is listed that a spray of contact cleaner might fix.
As always replies are appreciated.

Faults

Almost certainly the cluster dimmer thumbwheel by the light switch.

You can try contact cleaner (as it’s the simplest) however a lot of these modern parts use carbon tracks rather than copper windings and it’s just possible the carbon layer is wearing out or has cracked. That would cause it to show as open circuit. Hopefully it’s just dust.

Can’t say I recall ever seeing a comment about this issue on any BMW forums (I know I spend too much time surfing them….  )

Hopefully it’s just dust. Not like it gets a lot of use or maybe it’s because it’s not used. Who knows.

Didn’t take the switch out, just sprayed contact cleaner either side of the knurled wheel rolled it up/down a few times and all is good. If only everything was so easy.
