I serviced the x last night with an oil and filter change.Hadn't done it before so was a little aprehensive but after taking half the engine apart to replace the manifold previously aswell as other jobs i was pretty confident.....it was just a case of fear of the unkown i suppose
Anyway it was a simple task and saved a few spondooleys in the process

I recently changed the oil and filter on my 4.4 v8, not as easy as I thought it would be.
1. Could not shift the sump drain plug, so bought a dipstick suck thro' bit of kit (£45) , magic tool got nearly all the oil out of sump.
2. Then could not shift the oil filter nut (it is a biggie -36mm) went and bought a special low profile socket off ebay. worked a treat.
V8 owners beware and get the tools first.

Just to note that the e53 3.0ld is a smaller socket for the oil filter cover 32mm iirc (i will check again to make sure of the size)
I know this as i bought the same socket of ebay like Lez and it didn't fit

Pics as promised earlier.......
New parts ready to be fitted including new crush washer for sump plug bolt and new rubber o ring for the oil filter housing...
catchment bowl at the ready
you gotta be quick with that bowl
32mm socket (i think iirc) to undo the oil filter housing
old oil filter removed
new one in place
I re fitted the sump plug bolt and new oil filter and then added about 6 litres of 5w30 longlife oil turned the engine over to circulate the oil and then topped up accordingly until i was right on the dipstick
I used aprox 7.5 litres of oil.
New parts ready to be fitted including new crush washer for sump plug bolt and new rubber o ring for the oil filter housing...

Just popped out and checked the oil filter nut on my 2004 3.0i petrol engine and it's 36mm, so it's worth measuring before you buy a socket.
