Replace it with the all leather variant, much nicer, imo 8-)

Looks just like mine...apparently you have to remove the stick to get that bit out :(

considering a bit of mad masking up with a bed sheet and sourcing the right colour paint....whatever that is

Someone mentioned a rover colour once but couldn't specify....would throw some serious laquer it it too

x555 mentioned the Rover colour when it went on his steering wheel.

The stick does have to come off, serious pull upwards and its off - x555 once did quote he nearly twated himself in the face, so be careful!

I can't find the Youtube vid of how to get the plastic off, but I've seen it. You have to get a thin flat-head screwdriver UNDER the part of the stick where you press the button to select a different gear. It pulls up and out from the bottom of the switch. Then you have to be careful with the spring bits inside...

I'd sell my original silver inlay one if you just want to swap it, hopefully without knocking yourself out :)

Mike ....no need to consider a "bit of nad masking" the plastic bit will come off without removing the whole stick :D
It's easy ....just remove the press button part with a flat headed screwdriver (carefully) and then the plastic part will slide upwards once the two tabs on top are released :D
I just did mine in about 5 mins....if it wasn't for waiting for the paint and laquer to dry it would have all been done in about 10 mins ;)

Finally got around to sorting this one out :)
The gear knob pastic part that often gets sratched by rings/jewlery etc ....or in my case a plaster for a broken hand  can be removed without the hassle of pulling out the whole gear knob/shifter.

I was weary of taking the whole thing out as i did on my last x5 to change the trim and ended up with a dodgy spinning gear knob  which mrs x555 often reminds me about....and duely reminded me today not to f"@k this one up
So after asking the main man on here via text and getting no responce  (you know who you are and slaps will be dealt out at the next meet :D )
I decided to do it the x555 way and pull it apart :)
By gently prising out the trigger/pull switch part with the aid of a flat headed screwdriver and moving the gear knob back to drive you can then slide the plastic part upwards after pressing in the two clips from underneath...sorry all forgot to take pics when doing this  but it is pretty straight forward.

Then after some sanding down with glass paper and fine wet and dry to prep for painting. I got out the old rattle cans and spruced her up :D

piccys....

before...and this did get worse after 3 weeks with that plaster on....

During and after sanding down....

several coats of paint later and some laquer to protect it...

and the finished item installed......a very slight difference in shade but hardly noticeable :D

Hey X555, what colour rattle can did you use mate? Still looking to do my door handle insert as it has a little scratch from when I bought it and it is bugging me.
