Mothers x5

Post by Mother » Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:52 pm

Heres some before during and after pics of my x5 that i have just bought.......

Just got it.....

Its a 2002 3.0d sport with black leather and silver trim.

I ordered some rear smoked lights to freshen up the back end ( rear tailgate lenses were dull ) i tried to T-cut them but they werent that much better tbh, the actual rear lights are nice and shiny so made them look even worse. :(

I also ordered some front black angel eye headlights ( might fit at the weekend weather permitting) And also some 22" black and polished stormers which i have fitted, oh and yes i have changed the badges from chrome to orange ( see my newbies hello thread for reason why viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2639

I have also ordered a new black carbon and silver bonnet badge that i might mod, i probs will get one for the boot as well.

Painted front grill matt black.

I spent 5 and a half hours cleaning it the next day, mostly the inside and then about another 4 the day after t-cutting washing then waxing and blacking the plastic trim.

I actually flattened the battery having the doors open etc.....it wouldn't start the next day so i tried charging it for a few hours but it still wouldn't graft....i got my pal an RAC guy to come and give me a boost to get it off the drive so i could fit the new wheels on but he tested the battery and it was gooshed......so bought a new one (left disconnected for 30 minutes) and then reconnected the new one.
Fitted new wheels (look the dogs) and now it's dropped 2" on the offside at the rear (leveling sensor perhaps?) gonna find a level place and disconnect/reconnect to see if it sorts it?

Will post some pics up tomorrow with some of the mods so far. :D

Ive been through a few pairs or replacement rear lights, I had similar pair to yours but didn't like them in the end cos the lights were too bright, the lenses is clear in front the bulbs coma red to standard. I replaced them with proper smoked grey and red led lights from Germany, much better looks and quality and was around 160.

I think they look well, but would like to see pics after the above few post said they was to bright.

Mother you may want to add some of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290549195179 finish it off no end, i bought some but could always use some spray tint.

You read my mind scooby....was just looking at them ha ha
My rears look fine imo, i wouldnt say they were too bright at all, i was scared they were not gonna be bright enough and risk getting pulled by the old bill but they look great. :D

Front lights fitted today.....

Need some chrome indicator bulbs that use the weird bmw fitting?

Will do some tonight Scooby.....gotta remember that on the first click (park) the indicators are glowing a bit which spoils the effect, i will do some with main beam on as they are spot on. :)

really sorry mother but those front lights looks are really not to my taste, i have a set of depo angel eyes with hid conversion on my pre-facelift x5 like yours and it looks like its come from the factory. alot of other forum members have them now, i bought them nearly 4 years ago but u can get them fairly cheap now. if you search hartge x5 you will see some old pics. i will post some pics so u get the idea, but i would eventually replace if u can. but if u like then its all personal preference.

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1645&p=17786&hilit=hartge#p17786

heres a link to the previous pics, im gonna concentrate on the x5 now, more bodywork cos the paint work isnt the best. the wife hit the wing mirror on a lampost and cracked all the wingmirror casing. still works mind you but i dont see it being a cheap fix plus lots of other little annoying things like the rear cupholder mechanism is broken and replacing is meant to be a pain. you can see from the rear lights what i mean, the new led versions look alot better.

Yeah ayat it's all down to personal taste, i did look at lights like yours but thought they were similar to mine but with angel eyes, so not worth spending all that money on such a minor upgrade tbh.....imo mine look more modern and make it look more up to date and aggressive looking.

To be fair you can't really say your front bumper looks like it's come from the factory? :P

As for my rear lights they aren't as bright as yours tbh, you sure you had the right bulbs m8?

Anyway nice looking car ayat....did you fit that top rear spoiler?.....it looks the dogs. :D

Think i have the same problem with the rear cup holders .....i need to wedge me fingers underneath and drag it out ha ha.
