Wheels

Post by Goonerdad » Wed Oct 19, 2011 7:48 pm

Hey guys and gals,

Can someone tell me the actual sizes of 17" or 18" wheels that fit the E53 4.4 please?

I need to know so I can search for a set of wheels as I am only basically searching for BMW X5!! For example - do range rover wheels fit?

Cheers

It's not just a question of size but also offset (relationship between the flat mounting plate and the centre of the wheel looking in plan).
Personally I would stick with X5 wheels which come in 17 and 18 inch sizes.
I have 18s for my winter tyres - style "99" - 255/55 R18s. I think that the offset is 40 but as they are X5 wheels I knew they would fit.
If you go into realoem link below and go back to the beginning putting in X5 E53 and follow it through with your car's details (including date of production), it will give you all the BMW wheels that fit in "wheels" with the "style" number, tyre size etc.

I just used 2004 for the link above.
Hope this helps.

All done and answered for you, Goonerdad, I see the links are already there :D Take a look at the Winter wheels and tyres thread in the General Discussion sub-forum right at the beginning of the forum, the sizes and offsets etc are all listed there.

Re your question about Range Rover wheels - the old P38 Range Rover 18" wheels, which take 255/55R18 tyres same as the recommended size for E53 X5s, certainly fit the X5 but they do look rather weird and not quite the BMW look. Range Rovers of that era didn't have a standard 17" wheel - they came out with 16" wheels which are far too small for the X, (need minimum 17" for the diesels and 3.0i and 4.4) while the 4.6 and 4.8is models need a minimum 18" wheel. From memory the offset may be slightly different for the RR wheel, but not significantly. X5s from that era shared "heritage" with RR.

Newer RRs (L322s and onwards) and Sports etc I have no idea about wheels fitting or suiting an E53 X5, or offset differences, I would say they just look wrong on an X5 but then I like the OEM look.

Sure am :-) I think the family would kill me if I supported anyone else. I've just had to tell them to be quiet when Ramsey scored!!
