I have seen conflicting advice on different post - some saying a vent/breather should be connected to the battery others state to plug the unused vent hole with the plug moulded into the terminal cover.
I am fitting Bosch Silver S5 100ah to a 2004 E53 X5 3.0 D Sport.
Can someone advise the correct proceedure please?
Thanks

battery venting
Re: battery venting
Two vents either side of the battery ends. Plug the one at the negative end, vent the one at the positive end.
That's what I've done (besides that's the only option, battery won't fit the other way round and the vent pipe is at the positive end).

Re: battery venting
Sanj's right. You must vent otherwise you will get a build up of Hydrogen and in the right ratio that goes Boom! Can bring a whole new meaning to the term sub-woooofffer

Think AW8 also said he had some perspiration in that boot area... Not an ideal mixture to be sweating!

Re: battery venting
I had one vent hole connected to the advacent vent pipe but I had failed to plug the other vent hole at the opposite end.
I since used the blanking plug supplied, (as moulded into the Bosch terminal cover), to block the terminal vent hole that does not attach to a pipe.
I hope that makes sense

Re: battery venting
No conflicting advise...as said above you need to do both. Vent one side and cap the other
