Nav system thoughts ???

Post by Ubatoid » Thu Dec 29, 2011 10:08 am

Just stumbled on this little darlin on our favourite auction site http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200691821772? ... 1438.l2649
Anyone have any experience ? doesnt appear to be a Hooligan or Dynavin from my brief inspection. Kind of makes all those MK4 Sat nav computers look a little pricey at £300 + - ????

Im a little late upgrading but after purchasing Intravee for iPod integration, will be getting a mk4 DVD and will finish my upgrade. I know it's dated to what's available now but sort of prefer the oem set up.

Well it may be a clever bit of kit but in the looks department it's woefully lacking, imo anyway. The two knobs are unpleasantly shiny and in a pretty silly place for ease of use.

But thankfully we're all different, other opinions may of course vary ;)

Very interesting, what about the on-board computer can I still see all the options that I currently have ???

As I have pixel drop out on my display screen this could be a better option than trying to replace it with an original,
and get rid of that tape deck that I don't use.
Or am I assuming too much.

Okay I found this video, it doesn't show the installation procedure  So I am still none the wiser if it would be easy for me to take out my tape deck and radio and replace it with one of these,
I am very tempted as the unit seems to do a lot for the money, but I want to try and avoid a wiring nightmare and a system with poor performance,
surely with the age these cars are getting to there must be people out there who have tried one.
please speak up now.

Nav system thoughts ???

Post by n1k85 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 7:27 pm

That actually looks like a decent but of kit from that YouTube video, better than I first assumed, but as above, it's really lacking in the looks department! The hualingian unit certainly looks more pleasing!

As for fitting, a few guys on the e46 forum have replaced their tape decks with them. IIRC fitting is about an hours job, seems pretty straight forward and certainly a DIY job. Also I'm sure it's actually easier to fit these units if you currently have a tape/cd deck as opposed to factory Nav. If you have nav already you need extra cables to fit these units.

I'll try and find the DIY guide on the e46 site, it's pretty much the same thing! HTH
