Car tax

Post by pvr » Thu Feb 09, 2012 6:48 pm

Saves me looking it up - what is the car tax for the 40d ...

Just saw on the invoice the £445 amount, and I was sure it was not in the top bracket?

CO2 Emissions 198g/Km , based on a june 2011 model X5 40D

6 months - £134.75
12 months - £245.00

The 2012 X5 40D should also be in the low tax band.

The first year is higher hence the amount you've seen.

As he said, year 1 gets you an extra whack from DfT for having the cheek to buy a new car. It's just in Band J (£245). If it was top band (M) then they'd have stung you £950 including what is officially called 'Showroom Tax'.

ah, I see. I am used to seeing that high tax for the M but thought the X was indeed lower.

The invoice is confusing though with the item as "road tax".

At least I can claim that back so I guess it is better it is described as that.
