19'' Winter tyres for E53 for sale

Post by DiscoX5 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 5:20 pm

Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme Winter Tyres

Selling my winter tyres as my X5 is now sold.

These fit the standard E53 (facelift) X5 alloys as pictured (alloys not included) I believe they are also the same size as the pre-facelift alloys.

2x 255/50/19
2x 285/45/19

Done about 5000 miles. 5mm tread all round. These have been absolutely brilliant in the snow & also just in general cold conditions.

These cost around £1000 retail.

Will take £450

Located in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands

I am sure you are aware that for winters, the tread when you generally replace them is 4 mm (with new being around 9 mm). I would think you might struggle with that price.

They aren't anywhere near £1000 new ! I bought exactly the same this year for quite a bit less.

Yes, even ignoring the 4mm ideal, legal tread when new is 9-2.6 = 6.4mm.

New cost is therefore approx £100 per mm of legal tread remaining.

I got the price from mytyres.co.uk - £238 for 1x 255/50/19.

I am sure if you shop around you can get them cheaper! I did not say £1K was the best available price!!

There is no way you will get these for £650 all in fitted. Send me a link if you can and I will reduce the price accordingly!

Parts of the tyres I have may have nearer 6mm but I have stated 5mm all round as it is hard to measure and I don't want to over estimate.
Contary to what you may read on a forum winter tyres do not suddenly become useless when they hit 4mm. I know this from experience. As a tyre gets older and more worn they will of course not perform as well as a new tyre but only marginally. These have done 5000 miles and have plenty of tread left.

I don't think they are 9mm when new. If so they have worn alot for 5K miles. Correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway they are no good to me now so I am of course open to a reasonable offer.

With 8mm tread and alloys included. The tyres with 4mm tread will not be suitable for winter conditions now. Recommended minimum tread is 4mm so there isn't any winter life left in them. You'll be lucky to get £30 a tyre on eBay

dirtymonkey - you seem to have paid for 17' tyres. Mine are 19'. Not a like for like comparison!!

I bought 19' as I wanted to keep my current alloys as I think the 17' alloys look a bit pants!

smeeagain - yes I am open to offers

Camskill £720, plus anything you can negotiate off the price. Still doesn't alter the fact your tyres are on the limit of there useful life for there intended purpose.

Good luck with your sale anyway.

He is right, you really can't compare 17" with 19", 17" on an X5 looks tiny.

However, around £720-£750 is about right for the new cost of tyres, what the OP's are worth with a lot of life worn off them is down to what someone wants to pay. Wrong time of year to sell given the mild winter, store them until next October.

17"s may look tiny but they are probably the best size for snow use. A lot of people keep a second set just for winter. I am looking forward to putting my 19's back on though.
