Toyo Proxes. really that good?

Post by SimplyRed » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:47 pm

The Toyo Proxes seem to have even better reviews than the Michelin Diamaris and Bridgestones.

The Toyo's are cheaper by about £60 per corner too which is good but can they really be better?

I thought Toyo's were a middle way between the premium brands and the budget brands and I've sworn by Michelin all my life but I guess no point spending the extra if the Toyo's are really that good.

Anyone have the Toyo's, are they really better or is it just a cost cutting thing?

Have used toyos on many of my cars, all high powered beasts, found them to be first class.

I had Toyo's on the front when I bought the car with Bridgestones on the rear, when the front needed replacing I changed to Runflat Bridgestones so the front matched the rear. I personally prefer the Bridgestones, but you do get a firmer ride, but I prefer that. The firmer ride could just be going from non-runflats to runflats though.

I second this aswell, had them on my old 200sx & my X5 4.8 & currently got them on my TVR, i like michelins aswell but they are a fortune in comparison.

I rate bridgestone aswell got them currently on both of our beemers.

Toyo Proxes. really that good?

Post by jeegnesh » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:53 pm

Had Toyo's on mine and they have been excellent, look good too. Done a good job through snow too.

Mine have lasted 3 years and done 40k yes 40k just had to replace the fronts due to outter and inner wear even though the middle still had 3-4mm, the rears are still going and have 3-4mm left, last time I went to tyre shop they reckon there could be a years worth left in them, find that hard to believe.  Am well pleased with them, shame they got popular and the prices went up.

I had proxys on my 4.8 until recently and they were a very good tyre. However i needed to replace my fronts and I was unable to find the Toyo Proxy ST tyres anywhere. After some enquiries it appears that Toyo have changed the proxy and don't make the ST model anymore. I went with Bridgestone in the end.
Have them on all corners now and am more than happy.

I've used Toyos quite a lot on different cars and always been very pleased with them. Even ran them round the Ring with no issues.

Strangely enough, I had put them on the Polo two years ago and they show severe cracklines which I associate with tyres that are at least 5+ years old.

Toyo Proxes. really that good?

Post by gchristofi » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:22 pm

I have been using proxes in my 325 track car, for the money they are a great balance between performance / price  / wear rate. They are a little behind Michelin Pilot Sport for outright performance, but these are significantly more money!

When my diamaris need replacing on the x5, although I have found them v good, I will be tempted to try Toyo and pocket the change for sure.

Exactly what I did. You can get 2 sets of Proxies for the same price as one set of Diamara's and they are unlikely to wear at twice the rate.......

As I keep the X garaged and dress the tyres, they shouldn't suffer from any premature cracking.???

So with all the Toyo users on here can anyone suggest the best / cheapest online supplier?

New E53 owner here & looks like I'll be in need of a couple fairly soon.
