Best bling?

Post by finnie » Wed Sep 22, 2010 6:22 pm

I want to fit the post 55 satin steel rings to my 54 plate. I've seen loads on various sites and ebay but I'm wondering which are the most original looking and best fitting. Also thinking about the all chrome front grills but some seem cheap and others way too expensive

Anyone got an experience of these?

I got my dial rings from ebay about £20 ish iirc a subtle mod but looks great when done  as for the grilles personally i wouldn't go for chrome but all black or titanium look good(again just my opinion) I've had/got both :D
You can but them or save some cash and have some fun by spraying them yourself. It's a pretty easy job :)
There was a write up on the old forum about the dial rings :( so unless anyone has one saved i think there isone on x5outpost somewhere

Finnie...buddy, I got the grilles off my 4.8 sitting in the garage. The front and top ones as I've gone the black/colour coded route as normal....lol

Aren't the lower grilles black on the 4.8 as standard???? i know the bonnet grilles are titanium but i thought the lower grilles were black because mine are 4.8 ones and are black!

I meant the front kidney's as well as the washer grilles on top of the bonnet. The lower grilles (3 of them) are indeed black.

I thought so ...strange isn't it how 4.8 owners go black and 3.0d owners go titanium......we always want something we haven't got  or something with that little difference :D

X555 Were the chrome rings easy to do? Do you have a link for the ones you bought?

Pete... it took a bit of digging but i have found the actual place i got mine from mate here.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %26otn%3D1

As for fitting them it was pretty easy just a little fiddly at times :)

here's the link i used when i fitted mine from good old x5 outpost again  .... along with a little guidance from Sanj aswell

I found the upgrade impossible, I just couldn't get the back off the dial housing. Personally I woud steer clear.

I found top tip was to slide metal flat picture hanging clip into each of the outer instrument backing housing casing, when you had uncoupled it, thus made things a lot easier, just have to try and it will come away, also long nosed pliers a must!! Here are mine £20 delivered eBay. Fit like a glove too!! Snap in quite reassuringly and with a bit of effort!!lol

Bought some rings off ebay - speedofixer was the seller, got the ones that were a matt finish after examining my mate 06 plate. They arrived just this afternoon and took just 30 mins to fit. It was a bit of a fiddle but I followed these instructions and all went well! I'm really pleased and all for 20 notes!

Hmm thought I had a better before picture (you can tell I park at an angle on the drive) but anyway
