Batty warmers!

Well in Sarf London we call them Batty Warmers but to the more educated I'm talking about my heated seats

I got in the X last week and noticed a warmth emanating from my Chav pants.  I've noticed that the right seat bolster is overheating even on the lowest setting.  I don't fancy breaking my nails yet trying to take the seat apart but would like some opinions.  Anyone had this before? Could it just be the foam disintegrating  or a folded element?

Not sure if I should take it to some kind of auto upholsterer. Answers on a postcard please

Are all settings the same? I.e. is the hottest setting the same as the least warm?

Just thinking if the switch has gone that it will always go to the hottest setting, unless you are saying that even that is too hot.

I think the bolster's just worn and possibly depleted the foam and I can just feel it more or it's bent the element over and it's concentrated.

If I have it on one bar on the switch I can stand it but 3 bars and I'm scared I'll burn to death'

You're a nightmare the lot of you.  I'll probably go up in smoke before then.  Seriously people anyone had this problem?

What did you do with the bolsters then? Not like you are a fat thing.

Just think its wear and tear really as it's like a crease in the leather.  I've taken to literally just popping it on for a minute or so as didn't want to do any damage to the leather. I'm thinking that it can't be that common then if you haven't heard of it.

There have been cases of elements burning through leather if a fault occurs.  I have seen reports on the inter webs about this before.

If the resistance of the elements falls - perhaps due to incomplete cracks in the elements - it is possible to get local hot spots as a higher current flows through the affected section.

Thanks Richard.  Other than not using it what is the best/cost effective way for me to get it investigated?

What a strange fault, maybe take to upholsterer for strip down to see?

The fix is normally a replacement seat cover....

At least that's what Dealers will do.  Seems it's a fairly common problem.

Drive around in your thong then heat balance should be about right.
