Tyre sealant

Anyone used tyre sealant after getting a puncture. Thoughts on it?

Never used it but I do carry it.

As I posted yesterday many car manufacturers are supplying an inflator and sealant in place of a spare wheel.
With performance cars mainly because they just cant fit a spare in due to size, with others because there is no room due to 7 seat installations. Even BMW offer a kit ?? I have to think they have carried out some research and consider it safe.
Tempting fate now!! Its a long time since I suffered a puncture but when I have had they always seemed to be irreparable and resulted in a new tyre, so sealant I would see sealant as being in the same bracket as a space saver spare only to be used till you can get a permanent fix.

I use Tyre Magic and can't rate it high enough.  In most cases you won't know you have had a puncture as you put this stuff in the tyre before it gets a problem and as soon as a puncture happens, it is instantly plugged.  Now that said, I had a puncture on the caravan as I pulled up over the weekend.  In this case I just pumped up the tyre and drove down the road and puncture fixed.

Do you put it in all four tyres of your X5 then or just the caravan?

I put the Tyre Magic in all tyres, caravan, cars, trailer.  That way should a puncture happen, then it will be sealed instantly, usually without my knowledge. this is what I use

so say sealed usually without your knowledge. So I guess if  you dont know you've got a damaged tyre then you just keep driving it? Or does some of the sealant leak out so you can see the 'repair'?
I like the concept but I'm wary of continuous driving, perhaps at speed, of a 'repaired' tyre .... ?

The sealant has a limit of 5-6mm so won't seal a large puncture.  As it works by being forced out by the forces of the rotating wheel.  I would expect the sealant to only work on the main tread area, not the side walls, so again any tyre damage that could degrade the integrity of the tyre should not be hidden. Give the guys at the link a call as they are very helpful.

I used to use 'Puncturesafe' in my motorbike, and a lot of the emergency services use it even now.  It's water based, does not damage the tyre and seals holes up to 0.25".  The only way you can tell it's been used - assuming the nail/screw/debris isn't visible is by a small pink patch (blue now) where the fluid has come out and set solid.

I think it used to be called 'Ultraseal' when I used it. It's been around for years and works well.  Tyre fitters don't mind it because it only sets where it leaks and unlike tyre foams just wipes away or washes off when the tyre gets replaced for wear reasons.

It saved my life and tyres more than once.
