The 3 pumps are 2 small pumps (1) windscreen only operated by pulling the stalk towards you. (2) rear screen push the stalk away to operate. (3) the large pump (intensive wash) washes the windscreen and headlamps at the same time push the button on the end of the stalk to operate you don't need to pull the stalk. I don't remember if the lights have to be turned on to get headlamp wash but as my lights are on auto all the time mine operate as described above.

You don't take the pumps out of the tank when its in the car just unplug them and the level sensorĀ  undo 2 10mm nuts and lift the tank out complete with pumps, empty it into a bucket then pull the pumps out remove the black rubber pump seats (filter attached) clean the filters and replace. The whole job takes about 20mins.

Should the pumps hold fluid then greydog? As when I took of my first hose (was going to remove tank and pumps like you describe) the fluid was pouring out and showed no sign of stopping until level lower than pump, so had to reconnect the hose and siphon fluid out each time.
