^^^^ That's what I thought. Not so much the difference in wheel speeds, but the sudden stop as the front wheels climb off the rollers.

I am NOT an authority on this but every time I  have taken  the X5 for an MOT ( I go to the same place every time ) and have had 2 E53's ( 4.4 and 4.8iS) and currently have a 40D every single time without exception the MOT tester avoids the rollers and the brake test is done in a completely different way.
I think it even tells you in the handbook that the X5 should't go on  any rollers / dynos.

I have to tell you I would be looking at the MOT station to make good.
They were in the car and it broke whilst they were testing it.
I am sure they have insurance for this.

I did manage to source 2nd hand diff and the car is back on the road... i hope it will last this time round.

As a "precautionary matter", Oil was drained and replaced in a rear diff as well as the transfer box.

i hope you didn't put oil in the transfer box???
think that's meant to have ATF in it??

But am assuming you refilled like for like though.

I didn't ... a garage that did the work on the diff and suspension replaced it.
