I have a possible home made solution in METAL

First off- brass rubbing class 101

Leaning under the car with a bit of paper I rubbed over the plastic socket and determined the socket size to be 24mm*160mm (approx)

Suitable Materials

I need a T piece of course...a block bit to go in the slot and a tube bit to mount to the jack too. The T peice can be made in two

The tube bit to mount in the jack
If you have a trolley jack like mine it has a tubular extension piece to go between the cup and the jack itself

If you follow this link it's the bit stored horizontally on the left hand side

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?a ... egories%3C{9372016}/categories%3C{9372052}/categories%3C{9672013}/specificationsProductType=trolley___car_jacks&ecamp=aff-p9-awin-001

So...I have what is a possible vertical tube....just need a solid block to mount on top to fit in said 24mm*160mm slot in chassis

Cost so far....nowt

the block bit

B and Q 20mm *20mm*1000mm square steel tube (with rounded corners too
EAN 3232630201657
Cost £6.65...enough to make 4 but they don't do shorter bits

Chop a bit off say to 155mm

Fastening the tube bit to the block bit

Drill an 8mm hole in 1 face only of the square tube

Purchase 8mm threaded bar (*1000mm long)
EAN 3232630218457
Cost £2.48

Purchase a couple of 8mm nuts
EAN 5020789852985
10*8mm nuts Cost £2.48

Assemble with nut in squaretube screwing threaded bar through drilled hole
Drop into extension tube

thread sizes quoted guestimate of what needed

and this is where I get stuck....a way of bolting up the other open end

any ideas?

I could of course use anothe piece of that box section as an oversized washer I suppose....bit semi permanent though

I am watching you ...

Why do you need any of that anyway? My flat trolley jack just lifts it up fine straight on the jack points without anything else needed.

Because the cup damages the mounting points...my jack is not flat faced...it wont slide off...and i'm a bit anal that way

ok, mine is simply a round flat face with rubber on it.

My previous jack was also a cup though that fitted perfectly around it as well.

Being anal is absolutely fine though :D

I bought mine from this lot in the US.

http://www.reverselogic.us/ReverseLogic ... /Home.html

I think it was after a tip off from the membership here. Solid block if ali with rubber knobs on the ends to keep it snug in the jacking point and a round base which sits neatly in the cup of the trolley jack. I also have sets of their lug bolt guides for the wheel bolts for the BMW fleet we now have :D

Took about a week or so to get here. Watch the order value though as you can get stung for VAT if your order exceeds the import limit!

I can see the merits of it as it fits snug but the bottom face is flat I believe....unless it isn't?

damage to x5....none...slip off my jack....could do as mines got a small cup 50mm wide ish (guess)?

thanks for the post though

Fits fine inside the cup on both my jacks and there's no way it will slip out, but then both mine are about 90-100mm cups. 50mm? I'm not sure I would want to raise an X with that small a cup fitted!

Do you think that the square tube on its side 155mm atop the tube (50mm dia approx)would be man enough....I think so?
