Yes they are. My front panel is currently stuck in open, wont close at all. Its in the garage now and the mechanic (BMW specialist indy) said he will call BMW on Monday for further detais after a brief chat to them today they said WHOLE casette has to be replaced. I cant even do the disabling the back panel part either now : (

Got the panoramic roof on my 2010 (leased) e70. It doesn't get a lot of use - mainly tilted open when parked on a sunny day, but never had any problems with it to date.

Just one of the reasons I keep the AUC extended insurance policy going on my 4.8is......some of the others being gearbox, self levelling suspension, oil cooler (already popped once) and a host of other things.......

do these things just sieze up or do they actually break? What causes the problem?

Also do they need oiling every now and then or is that a bad thing to do?

Mine is ok as well, but get more and more scared to use it

My car is parked inside though, so hopefully does not get the brittle plastic due to temperature variances.

Sorry guys, but if it works it will go certainly. Being parked inside or out makes no difference. I would disable the rear panel. You can search the forum on this. Ive just spent 700 having mine back to working order, and the back disabled- note the rear panel disabling is permanent, but will save you ££££ in the long run.

Trust the words of someone whos been thru it- prevation is better then cure.
