Just to add......

I also know a superb Paint Dent Removal Guy (10 mins west of Worthing). If private work customers are flexible, realistic as to what he can/can't do & don't mess him around he is good as gold.

You might be suprised what you can do with your DAS PRO..........that will be my next weapon of choice when the G220 dies, (I am already on my 2nd).

If having a go yourself, (& unsure re entry level relative to the car & damage), the same old advice applies to start off gently........ Don't do anything with wet & dry ! (I myself would only use same very gently & if absolutely needed to remove now excavated paint sitting either side of the scratches). I would aim do all work with a machine polisher alone, continually re-evaluating after a each set of a few passes.

You mention DW forums....thus you know many have been suprised at what they have achieved.

If correction or PDR later not up to needs, the paint guy I mentioned has prior done superb work for CA Automotive, (high end BMW specialist). I doubt you will get a better price for similar work elsewhere - especially if we go along to see him together ;)

Drop me a PM when time is right, (I won't be offended if you use other contacts/solutions instead) :)

Thank you so much for all the suggestions and offers AW8 :)

Now I've calmed down a bit I think I know what I want to do...

I'll run the das6-pro over the car with some meguires, that will give me an idea if the scratches are too deep.

Once I've worked out that this is a one-off (which I'm sure it is), in the new year I'd like to visit the PDR chap and see what he thinks (via yours, with some beer tokens?!). Do you think I should order some paint from paints4u, or would he be able to source Estoril Blue for any touch-ups. If it looks too much for him then maybe a trip to the boyshop.

Oh, and more beers...sorted :icb: :icb:

All you need do for now is have a go with the Meguiars when time allows. I don't know what pads/products you have but if you share details then myself or others can advise the best plan of attack if unsure. The relative cut strength's of Meguiars polishes/compounds is on the bottle packaging & the Meguiars site.

No need to order any paint whatsoever & certainly not for the PDR guy..Remember The clue Paintless Dent Removal doent use paint. He literally pops & taps dents - he doesnt use paint & cant sort scratches ;)

Just to recap........

1. You are going to try to correct/remove reduce the appearance of the scratches using your DAS PRO & pads/polishes. (tutorials on you tube).

2. If no joy on your own then I can have a look, give pointers, have a go myself. I am used to correcting this type/generation of BMW clearcoat. (I recently corrected a 5 foot long fingernail detectable scratch on the Z3 caused by me keeping a little too close to a hedgerow on a country lane  ).

3.If options 1 &/or 2 & sratches too deep then we can visit my paint, (body shop), guy. He will be able to sort any paint sourcing requirements & will want to see the car 1st before arranging paint.

4. The PDR visit is a seperate matter to correct the unrelated parking dinks you spoke of, (assuming paint not cracked/broken, panels not creased & repair areas(s) accesible for PDR work). PDR will not rectify the scratch marks you have posted pics of.....they need options 1, 2 or 3 above. Keep PDR thoughts seperate from those scratches.

Hopefully that makes things a bit clearer.

And this isn't going to cost you a lot of beer tokens btw  :)
