Hopefully just the adjustment will have done the trick. As others have said you need to use the brake to keep it up to scratch.

MOT Failure....YAY...
I went to collect the car last night but turned out that it was stuck up in the air on the ramp.

The ramp had broken and they were having to call out an engineer to fix it. So i ended up leaving the car there overnight.
You have luck like me haha, I could fall into a barrel of tits and come out sucking me thumb

Thanks Guys,

I picked the car up yesterday fully MOT'd up! :)

I asked them to call me and let me know how much they wanted to put the brakes/bulb right. But they just did the work anyway and charged me £50 to fix the 'parking brakes' and £6 to sort out the headlight bulb holder. (it was in fact the holder that was broken not the headlight)

I also had them fit my new front Driveshafts while I was there so the car feels a little tighter now!

My new dilemma is what do I now do with the 2 original driveshafts they left in my boot? (they are in a bit of a sorry state, both CV boot split and dry as a bone). They weigh a ton, what do I do with them?...Ideas?

Scrappy if they're in such a poor state, or see if there's a workshop that does refurbs and will take them off your hands and give you a few quid for them.

Oh, and congrats on the MOT. £60 was what it cost to have the E46 ones done last summer, so not a bad deal.

Out of interest....what was the charge for the drive shaft fitting...I assume you meant fronts?

£80 to fit the front driveshafts mate, and I bought both shafts 'OEM Quality' with 2 year warranty for £79 (complete with all cv boots etc ready to fit). Even the garage that fitted them commented that the quality was excellent and couldn't believe they were £79!

On other forums people have paid £300 a side at BMW just for replacing a CV boot!

I was originally going to replace the boots, but at over 120k and considering you need to dismantle the whole lot just to do the boots, it seemed a no brainer to just replace both shafts with brand new ones.

I would hate to do all that work replacing a boot, then find out the joint itself is knackered!

Yeah it wasn't too bad, my brother said he'd do it for £50 but in his garage at home but I thoight that would end up being a nightmare without a ramp and while it's -2 outside. Then a BMW indy in Wolverhampton also quoted £80 and I had planned on taking it there, but while it was getting some tyres fitted at a local garage I just happened to ask how much it would be to fit them, and when they also came back with £80 I thought why the hell not? They were still sitting in the boot anyway!

It took them just over 1.5 hours to fit both apparently.

It just shows the difference between Dealer and Indy pricing. The indy we use in Bletchley, is about £50/hr+VAT whereas the Dealer is £136+VAT. The reason - no posh showroom, post ramps that go into the floor and tarty coffee machine while you wait!!
