There was an article in Auto Express a few months back that said with safety cameras having been around for long enough now and so drivers should be paying attention to them so no more sympathy, insurers were no longer ignoring the 3-points (were only interested in 6 or more as said above), and certain offences could hike insurance by 11% or more.  Mobile phone use is one that more and more insurers were beginning to regard as to be no longer considered for cover at all.

I put it on this thread back in April.

that's exactly my scenario i think..

anyways.. after shopping around i sealed the deal just now. tesco it is.

anybody else who's interested - the tesco clubcard offer of upto 30% off made the winning bid! note that price comparison sites did not display the discounted price up front, only showed a notice saying there'd be a club card discount. had to go through the motions to get the discounted price!

net result - retained my insurance at the same price as last year with the SP30 in hand. .

goes without saying if i didn't have the SP30 i'd have managed to bring the premium down significantly!!

this one from mrs to me :chair:

Looks like the X5 is the number 1 stolen car in the country. brilliant. I was told these came with cat 1 security so surely they cant be that accessible?

But that was back in 1999 - as in Thatcham 1......I don't think they are ever re-assessed are they?  And Thatcham being sponsored by the Industry doesn't exactly help.

Theft most likely to be be from 'key grabs' where the keys are stolen from the owners house.  Hard to believe it's the 'most stolen car' but if that's what the stats say and even then they're only from Tracker.  Loads of X5's with no Tracker supplied device that probably never been nicked...... :)

Tracker lost the BMW contract some time back.  I wonder if it was because not enough were being recovered..... ;)
