Could have been a faulty injector that has caused fuel to wash the bores and fill the sump with diesel, this is a common problem on Audi 3.0 D engines, customers were noticing that when checking the oil level that the oil marks were getting over the max marker due to diesel mixing with the oil.
This washes the bores and prevents lubrication, so causing terminal bore wear.
I have been on the Audi website to see what the common problems were as I was thinking if changing to an A6 or Q7 for my next motor.

So maybe a new engine, new injectors & new turbo. This is really starting to add up!

Right I found out today that it was just one of the engine bores that filled with diesel, so does this mean fault injector?
Also does anyone know how you check a faulty injector when they are removed from a engine?

Removed the injectors, 4 of them are fucked! 1 of them a large part of it has broken off and gone into the bore (the bore that filled with diesel) and scored the bore >:(
Whats my best option?
1) Buy 2nd hand engine & fit new injectors - I can get new injectors for £100 each through a friend & a 2nd hand engine will cost around £1k.
2) Remove head, have bores skimmed, fit new piston rings & new injectors? (Dont have a clue what this idea will cost!)

M57D30. Should be 184bhp. The E53 version does not have swirl flaps on the intake side. Other BMW models were fitted with them but never the E53.
330d and 530d versions are slightly differently tuned, but basically the same unit in that year.
M57D30, also called M57D29, was introduced in 1998.
Applications:
184 PS (135 kW; 181 hp)@4000, 390 N·m (290 lb·ft)@1750-3200 models:
E39 530d
E46 330d
184 PS (135 kW; 181 hp)@4000, 410 N·m (300 lb·ft)@2000-3000 models:
E38 730d
E53 X5 3.0d
193 PS (142 kW; 190 hp)@4000, 410 N·m (300 lb·ft)@1750-3000 models:
E38 730d
E39 530d
