Frozen drivers door lock

I've got the remote for the heater and do give it 20 mins before I go out but have to say the doors and windows are still sometimes too sticky with ice

Had exactly the same thing happen to me last Wednesday in the cold  >:(

Bought a new carrier from the stealers at the weekend for £78 and fitted it Saturday night in snow can't say it was fun!

likewise  :thumbup: nicest thing in this weather. calling also means it doesn't matter if the car is in some car park smwhere...

said that, doubt if it helps with teh door locks though..

This is a design fault on older X5's (like mine!). The cause is the Bowden cable at the door lock mechanism. Moisture gets in between the cable and sleeve, freezes and jams the cable. When you try to "force" the door handle the hook at the end of the cable deforms and knackers the lock connection.
Solution is to replace the lock mechanism. Last year I was quoted £300 from the local stealers. Bought a new lock mechanism (£70) and changed it myself. One of those jobs that is finnicky and awkward but do-able.
