I used to like the old E38 "Oxford Green", I'm not a huge fan of silver.. I get the point behind it, they look quite nice, and are easy to sell..

Shopped around, and my other half spotted a 4.8is in LeMans, and we both love the colour. Unfortunately it was LPG converted, and we travel to Norway when we can, and LPG is banned on the channel tunnel, and we don't like the idea of leaving our dogs in the back, in the car deck on an 18 hour ferry trip. (So we prefer to drive!)

To cut a long story short, I found the LeMans 3.0D, and after that, limited my hunting to Black, and LeMans blue. Eventually found a LeMans 3.0D with Xenon, Heated leather, and pretty low miles (70k), and a price I was happy with. Turned out to have even more factory options fitted when I got to see the car.

Planning to run it "standard" for a few months, find any "problems"... get them sorted and then see what Mods I fancy doing at that stage :).  Probably start with the hifi system... Now to see if I can get a custom sub built for the boot cubby! Must "look" OEM, and ideally be switchable, as I usually turn off my sub when the dogs are in the back!

Previous owner must have kept a souvenir... The luggage net / dog guard is missing. Wonder why BMW didn't make an all in one, like the E39.. That was a nice integrated luggage cover+load net.

Faults so far..
Sunroof rattles (but no water leak, and all functions working for now...)
Front washer jet pressure very weak.. need to check the filters. Have spare pumps from E39 which I believe are the same! :)
Passenger mirror auto folding, touches the door when folded. I've got folding switched off, as I don't want to mark the paint. (Possible to adjust or just leave it switched off?)

Sat Nav disk is horribly out of date. (No real surprise there), SW Version 1/70. Im assuming the Main dealers sell the disks at an inflated price, and as I already have a 5inch TomTom, I probably wont bother.. It's good enough for days I've left the tomtom at home. I like the Navi display of the onboard computer, and MP3 tags, plus its a TV.. So the Navi function itself is more of a backup than anything else.

PS.. If anyone has a good guide on checking the filters on the sunroof drains in the back of the car.. For obvious reasons I would like to make sure they are good, or removed.. whichever is best!

Originally I was looking for the light grey leather, as I had recollections of an E38 with the beige leather, and it came with a brown dash which I didn't like at all. But my X5's got the "Anthracite" headlining, and a dark grey dash, no "brown" in sight. I'm really happy with how it looks inside and out.

April, not long after my birthday.. 80 motorway miles each way, shouldn't be impossible. I'll mark it in my diary and see what I can fit in :).

I whipped the rubber bellows off the loose side on the sunroof (Still no sign of water leaks, just a rattle), Have observed very slight wear on the plastic rail that the main panel runs on (back panel mechanism looks perfect).  I'll probably try and clean the lube from the rail, and glue in a small shim to sort it. Talking about half a mil, but boy does it rattle.

Either that or I'll try and get a replacement rail for it. I can just about make out a serial number, I'll get a picture up later, so if anyone has any info on getting the part, that would be great.

Would certainly be nice to make it up to the meet, the venue looks pretty interesting too :)

Really nice car.

I used to have an e39 530d (amongst other previous BMW's).

Enjoy the X5.

My dealer described it to be similar to carbon paper like you used to get in paying in books etc.

Looks black but if you look carefully it is blue.

Carbon Black is THE ONLY COLOUR - you all know you want it too.....

I always took the colour to be as the paper, and after first seeing it on an X, I knew I would have to get one, so I did. :-)

Thought I would just drop by today.. I found a very slight wear on the sunroof mechanism that was making the main panel slightly "loose" when closed. I simply got some stick on aluminium tape, and carefully stuck it over the guide rail where its worn..

The panel is tight again now :), and if the metal tape wears down, I'll just replace the tape again :) The whole pana roof is working great now. I'll take it for a spin later, but I'm guessing the rattle is gone, as I cant move the panel by hand at all now. (But its totally smooth when opening and closing it)
