And the 50i is of course a 4.4 twin turbo now, no 4.8s any more.  Not sure how much the 'rumble' has changed with the downsize and hairdryers?  BMW do like to confuse buyers with their numbering don't they!!  Even the M50d is actually only a 3.0L triple dryer...not the most helpful nomenclature

My thoughts too, just read this and also found out it's an '08. TBH £28K is more of a main dealer price with a full warranty thrown in. Buying private is always much more of a risk plus I have to sell my current car rather than PX.
We can still talk, looks a good spec I've e-mailed back to request photos and further info  :)

An option mentioned earlier in this thread was the 40d. Now having spoken to a main dealer today he tells me that there are two models, the SE and the M, he says that the SE has standard handling and there's no option for a Dynamic pack upgrade as per the earlier X5 models.
The only way to get an 40d with better handling is to go for the M, is this true and does the SE version handle poorly?

Doh !! I hate car salesmen  >:(
Just looked at the details of a 40d SE and it says it's got the Dynamic Package and the tell tale aluminium trim on the steering wheel (I belive this indicates Dynamic pack?).
The joker must be trying to push me towards an M that they have in stock......

BS Alert, I've just gone on to BMWs own used car section, put in a national search for X5 40d SE.  8 available with at least five of them having Dynamic Package!  Why o why do we get main dealer salesmen who don't know their own product?  >:(

They wind me up, you pay a premium if you go to these guys and the amount of rubbish they spout is unbelievable. I'm new to all this and BMW's in general and I've got to say that BMW dealers and their staff that I've experienced to date are the worst in all my years of car buying, bloody idiots !!  >:(

My thinking at the moment;
I love the 4.8 V8, silly fuel economy and tax but I do low miles so not a major issue, the 40d is still a little pricey due to their age but reasonable fuel and tax.
So, as the 40d's fall into mine and others price brackets are the 4.8 V8's going to plummet in price, they won't hold their money as well as the 40d. This means that in the long run a 40d will be a better investment all round.
Am I talking rubbish or is this the way to go ?

40d is the way to go.  :)

Diesels will inevitably hold their value in this country, unless diesel prices become an even bigger gap to petrol.
