BM54 is also a twin tuner radio, so gives TMC + TP even if your listening to another radio station. I think it has some other advantages too.

Should just be a drop in for your car :)

The repair guy is Excalibur on M3Cutters forum, he's also on the bmw5 forum.. Im not sure if he's been on here, but from what I've seen he's the best guy for repairing (and upgrading) the BMW electronics.

I think he does some custom stuff too, like a DVD player which is built into the casing of a Nav Mk3 nav computer. Ready to roll, and plug into the TV module etc.

Even broken they can go for a fair few £££.Theres a couple on e-bay that are ok BUT there not guaranteed I'd try a breakers yard you never no you might drop on someone who doesn't no the true value of them  >:D.Then at the right price just say £50 (probably faulty) send it away for repair £100ish you will then have a 12 month guarantee and updated bm54.

I think that yours may be non standard with that amp location, it's normally buried in the LH rear cubby or down by the battery.  Bolted to a rear seat sounds like an aftermarket set-up.

HiFi version has two up front plus two in each door (10).  DSP version has two extras in the RH cubby as a subwoofer (12).  Base setup is two up front plus one in each door (6).

Have a chat with Jinja, he's just got an 4.6, and has stereo problems, and is talking about buying an aftermarket.. He might sell his bm54 if he goes that route? Its probably faulty, but if your after one for repair that's fine :)

I think the M3 (E46 version) uses the same hardware.  It's the same dash etc from what I remember, assuming it has the Mark 4 Nav.

Yeah, that will work too - just make sure you know which one you have in your car (17 pin or 40 pin).

17 was the older cars and 40 the newer ones. Oh and 17 were round pins and 40 were flat.

I think though BM54s were all 40 pin and the BM24 were the round pin come to think of it - just look at the quadlock in your car (take a photo a post it if you want us to help)

OK - no airbag unit needs removing!

The RCM is in the boot, get the spare wheel out, undo the 4 bolts to the compressor (round helmet), pivot that back (careful of the blue and red air lines), unscrew the 3 philips on the black plastic (with BMW written on it).

Now you'll see this spare quadlock with nothing attached - I'm assuming you know all this as you say the unit is missing.

Need a pic of that.

Pretty sure round pin is BM24 and flat pin is BM54 - they are not interchangeable.

That looks a bit like the cable for the hifi system upgrade amp. Non dsp 10 speaker. I can check in mine if you like as I have the secondary amp.

The secondary amp is 6x15watt plus 4x25 watt and comes with the hifi speaker upgrade package.

Would that mean that the bm54 AND the amp have been removed ?
[/quote]

How many speaker grills do you have in the rear doors?

1 - then you have no additional amp (it's in the BM54)
2 - then there will be an additional amp in the left cubby hole behind the framework (near the bluetooth module).
