I'm also limited to less than £100 per fill due to auto matter station.  As a rule I tend to fill up at and around 470 miles.  Using road Road Trip, my best range would have been 649 with a 34.69 mpg.

I used to get between 400-450 miles in my face lift e53 V8 tank cost around £110 at the time IIRC. Now getting 650+ for circa £85 a fill up  miss the V8 though  >:D

Full tank of LPG priced @ 73.9/litre - £50 200-250 miles depending on how i drive.
Full tank of Petrol (when i first bought the car) was £120 - Cant remember the price but i got around 275 - 300 miles......
All fun though!

And i am driving nicely  O:-)
Think maybe a good service and new filters everywhere may help a little.........+ a remap.

Yep I get all the servicing done, use correct spec oil, got the vortex breather fitted etc . I haven't had it remapped unless the previous owner has but I wouldn't know how to check that myself.

I keep seeing this Vortex breather popping up on threads on here. Is this the filter that helps with the smoke screen i leave other cars sitting in ?

So if i want to do an on drive quick service what will i need ?

My X5 is a 2005 3.0 D sport.

I want to change all of the accessible filters and breathers, Oil and anything else that i shouldn't overlook.

Really gotta get rid of this heavy smoking issue when the hammer goes down.

Well, back from skiing last week, I did my usual fill to brim at Verdun services prior to hoofing it to the tunnel and then back to London. That was 315 miles and had light on with 40 mile range showing as I got home.
However was driving 85-100mph with a roofbox and the OBC showed about 20 mpg which I was pretty pleased with.
I had a 80 mile stretch of A-road through the Black Forest which I cruised in a long convoy keeping to speed limits (lots of 100 or 80 kph). Zeroed the OBC and an hour or so later it was showing 33 mpg -  highest I've seen.

I have a feeling that the facelift should have vortex oil breather filter fitted as standard but i maybe wrong. The normal type filter gets clogged up and this can aid early turbo failure (due to lack of lubrication for the turbo)
Maybe worth cleaning your intake manifold and EGR to see if that help your 'black smoke' on heavy acceleration. Is your X5 remapped? What fuel do you use?
