remap insurance

Do you have a remap? Are you declaring it? If so, how much extra do you have to pay?

Don't have a remap, yet! I will declare a remap, I was considering a tuning box as you get the same results and they can be removed easily & a insurance / warranty company would never know one was fitted!  )

An ECU remap involves refining the sophisticated programme that monitors your ECU. Many people looking to adjust their engine to reflect their individual performance needs may prefer this option over a diesel tuning box, though there are a number of disadvantages associated with ECU remapping in general. Firstly, once your engine has been re-programmed, it is very difficult to restore it to its factory settings. A diesel tuning box can be removed effortlessly and, once it's removed, your vehicle will revert back to its standard setup (a particularly strong advantage for customers with vehicles still under their manufacturer's warranty). Our CRTD2 systems are flash upgradeable, which means you also have the option of updating your unit further down the line, and should you wish to recoup some costs from your diesel tuning box further down the line you can detach it and sell it to another motorist. In addition to all of these points, the diesel tuning boxes on offer from TDI Tuning can be over 50% cheaper than a standard remap!

Decent tuners keep a copy of your original map so you can put your car back

Piggy back boxes don't cover all the parameters that a map do and therefore maps tend to be safer

I believe that some tuning boxes do still leave some tell tale signs on the ecu whether box is still there or not

The problem I see with this is that suppose you've had an accident, there you are trying to disconnect the box in front of all the witnesses when the cops turn up......and that's assuming that you're physically able to get out of the car after the crash......it just doesn't seem worth the risk to me......

Agreed, that is a good point! Bloody insurance companies, they are the reason for people thinking about taking the risk in not telling them due to their stupidly high premiums!  >:(
