Webasto no longer fitted by default in the diesels.  It was a very expensive cost option.  I was told the new all alloy engines don't need the coolant warming system.  But it may of course just be BMW being tight!

I forgot to say that the thermostat was faulty alright  but not stuck open  it was opening too soon and then staying open , so the temp never got up to normal ..
