Well you don't have it then

DSP is Digital Sound Processor. It is an upgrade on the sound system from factory. You would have two small subs in the right hand compartment in the boot. You also have an option on the nav screen to adjust all the sound settings and to give digital effects such as echo and concert hall...

Fitting the new sub and amp shouldn't be a problem, just means taking out the old two subs first. I'm still not sure what Amp I will have to get, I'm home on the 15th and unfortunately away for the meet otherwise i'd be there with all my bits and a screwdriver set for the lads to get on with while I get the drinks in

Key thing to get right in your head here is what you currently have in the car and what you are trying to add.

Up front you have tweeters/mids/woofers to cover the frequency range (some won't have the mids).

In the rear doors you will have just tweeters and woofers (high and low frequencies).

The sub is your subwoofer (lowest frequency range), travels furthest and creates the 'fill' of sound WITH the rest of the frequency range. Otherwise if you've heard and sub and don'y have it now, you know something is missing.

The sub enclosure sold here is custom by x555 for a 10 litre displacement (subs have an optimum working range) and you will need to find the correct sub.

A sub will never work well without its own dedicated amplifier - hence the need for one here.

It is a subwoofer so will look to give you the lowest frequency, that is taken from the rear door woofers (as they have the current supply of low-end frequency). Identify the rear left and right woofer speakers, get the positive and negative speaker wire, splice them and take them to the amplifier (which will have a line in feed). The amp must receive this signal so it can amplify it and send it onwards to the sub.

The other amp connections required are one permanent positive (usually straight off the battery), one negative (or ground, off the chassis of the car - it's been earthed, but remove the paint layer to get that really good earth connection) and lastly the signal cable that tells the amp to come on or turn off when the head unit is switched on/off. Of course you have the speaker wire that comes out and goes to the new amp.

Remember two pairs of speaker wire feed in (left and right door) and then ONE comes out - that's called 'bridged'. Gives single output but also more amplified.

In my case, because of the fact I have DSP and speaker wires already feeding the subs in that location, I can just use those wires to feed the signal to my Sub Amp?

I've not even looked at this job, it will probably make much more sense when I do, I'm just asking the questions so I don't have any surprises and to make sure that I'm not without music for too long!

This is where you may have a problem. I don't know if the whole sub enclosure has the amp built into it. I think it does as there is a connection low down - that to me looks like it's for power to the amp and line feed in. So all the sub out wires would be internal. If you were to take this whole unit out, how will you identify the cables? Bet the answer is on xoutpost anyway.

Unless of course I am wrong and the amp is seperate! Hope so!

I'll be sure to get some pictures up when I start doing it. The Subs at the moment aren't really in an enclosure as such, its more like a metal plate that the Subs are mounted to. Hopefully i'll be able to see what is going where... it would be nice if there was already power and a signal going to that area!

what amp have you guys used for this set up ? I got the focal sub being the recommended option.

Price seems to differ radically for a mono output amp of around 400w. Can't imagine it makes much different to powering a sub whether you spend a little or a lot?!?

I haven't bought a dedicated amp yet. Will be running the same Focal Sub...

You get what you pay for is the way I always look at things. Go for mid range to compromise if you don't know what to go for.

Right then. Sorry x555 but I bought alfamale's setup off him as my budget was small, and his included an Alpine MRP-M352 mono power amp.

This amp has both low and high level inputs and is fully adjustable for gain, boost and frequency response all while putting out 200W rms at 4ohms. You can pick them up for a reasonable price, and put out a decent punch.
There is an install guide on YouTube which I'm sure someone will post the link for ( hint hint).

The speaker cables from the non DSP amp are the brown & yellow pair (left rear woofer) and blue & brown pair (right rear woofer) from the amp connector, pins 1,2,24&25 if I remember correctly. These cables are the thicker 1.5mm CSA and not the other 0.75 ones so are easy to spot.

The switched feed is the same purple /White as per the YouTube install, and can be found in the White connector to the right of the amp. Just splice in along the loom running to the back of the car.

As with most installs the hardest part is making everything tidy and safe. I will try and post a few pics of mine if I get the chance.

No need for the sorry fella

I know that set up you bought well as it was sold to alfamale by pewters after i built him one of mine

It works well but as pewters said there is a clear difference in sound quality between the enclosures.......like they say you usually get what you pay for mate

I dont wish to knock your set up as i said it's fine and works well mate but there is a reason why my enclosures cost more ....ask anyone who has one

No prob x555, I may be back for one of yours yet if financial control releases any funds in the future and you have any left. It was a case of needs must ( yes dear I MUST get a sub, you'll hear the difference) and small steps and all that. Now that it's in, a new enclosure and sub in the future can be introduced subtly - wink wink

what speaker grille have you folks gone for?

I've finally ordered the focal 21v2 and a kicker 350w bridged amp. So just need a grille to crack on with the install now.
