Bluetooth doesn't pair with 2005 X5

Hello,
I've had my X5 for several months now, but haven't got the bluetooth to work.
The manual says to press the talking head button on the center console, but mine is on my steering wheel. I've read online that the one on the steering wheel is not the same.
When I turn on the ignition key my phone finds the car's bluetooth, and can connect for a few seconds before disconnecting, as shown in this screenshot:

It nevers shows 'Bluetooth pairing' on the car's display.
What am I supposed to do, if the talking head button seems to be the wrong one?
Or how do I clear the previously connected devices?
I have a BMW phone in between the seats.

This is my interior (not my picture)

Here's some close ups I took:
Talking head is on the bottom, left row of buttons

Thanks,
Glenn

Welcome, have a look at thislink and try to delete all previously paired devices first.

Hello,
That also requires the use of the talking head button, which is not above the storage compartment as the manual suggests. I tried it anyway using the button on my steering wheel, which did nothing.
It doesn't show anything on the display.

The centre armrest has 2 sections the storage area below the arm rest and a top section (small oval button) which covers the bluetooth phone eject box and pen storage trays. The pairing/talking head button is there.
Then follow the instructions in the link Sanj gave.

You can also start pairing through 1.4.0 diagnostic software.

The button with the head and 'voice waves' on the steering wheel isn't the Bluetooth connect button: it's the voice command button.  I've not previously seen one like yours without a Bluetooth pairing button in the centre compartment but your phone definitely shows that it is seeing a Bluetooth module (confirm by looking for a silver box under boot floor LH side at a jaunty angle.

Perhaps the R/T button will work for you - this normally swaps between radio and phone so it's worth a shot but I admit it's a bit of a guess (and I'm 4 years out of date on E53 now...)

Hope this helps - there is also a load of BMW Bluetooth stuff on YouTube but I suspect it will take a bit of trawling through to find a similar model to yours.  The one other piece f advice I would give is to delete any messages stored on your phone.  My experience is that if the Bluetooth does connect it then tries to transfer all those messages to the car but it takes so long that the Bluetooth pairing process times out.  Deleting the messages prevent that.

Good luck!

You have the built in BMW Siemens car phone system and it will only pair with and use that handset.

I had it in mine and could not pair it with anything else.  The SIM card goes into that little device that looks like a small handle sticking up in your second picture.

Oh, damn.
Is there any way I can replace the module or so?

I deleted all my messages and it asked my for a code now, 2701, which I found on the plastic leaflet that came with the manual. But I guess that's the code for the built-in phone?

The leaflet is from Motorola.

Not sure how much you have to change to switch it to a 'conventional' Bluetooth system.  I know mine would only work with the basic type phone services running on what in the UK was GSM900 at that time.  That could well be the pairing code you need though.

If it isn't then a BMW dealer will be able to tell you the right one from the vehicle's VIN.

Okay, thanks, I'll go to a dealer.
My CD chamger doesn't work anymore so I was thinking of replacing it with an aux adapter instead.
Are there an good aux + bluetooth adapters I could use?
That way I can just connect to the bluetooth adapter
