Self levelling gurgling

I have noticed that the self levelling compressor runs for a short while when the ignition is switched on. When first checking the source of the of this sound, it was also accompanied by a gurgling noise, which terminated when the compressor stopped. The gurgling is only heard under the car, and not in the boot itself. Is there a drain for condensate from the compressor?

Sounds like your spare wheel well is full of water. Might be an idea to lift the wheel and check. The pump does have a condensate filter/ dryer but should never get full of water, it gets blown out when the airbags vent.

Thank you for responding-this info is what I am looking for.

After reading about this possibility, I did check the spare wheel well for any current or previous signs of water, and its all dry-took everything out. This sound is only present when the compressor is running. Could you elaborate on where the filter/dryer is located please, and where the venting should occur?

I did not remove the cover to the pump - the bolts securing this have some largeĀ  washers with a flat on one side that were gripping red rubber mounts a little too well and I didn't to risk destroying these unnecessarily

The dryer sits on top of the pump motor - it is all one unit. Don't be scared, lift that turtle shell and have a look.
