I'm new to the forum.

I have just purchased and X5 2003 which I think is awesome but I have a bit of a problem.

There is a message on the dash that says "Self-Levelling Suspension Inactive". I have done a bit of research and a lot of people get this message and there car lowers its self.

My X5 has the message but is still sitting at normal height. The car doesn't rise or lower when I lock it though (not sure if its supposed to). The central locking doesn't work on the remote but works with the manual key but I am getting the GM3 module replaced soon which I hope will fix it.

This Inactive warning is apparently not uncommon...
Mine throws this warning once every 2 weeks or so... I simply stop & restart engine after a 5 second engine stop... problem warning gone - again.

I have plugged in the diagnostic tool when this fault is on the instrument cluster, and it seems that there is a sensor on one of the rear suspension arms that is possibly playing up... and even so, like yours my vehicle stays level.

Only ones about 4 months ago did it loose 3 inches rear suspension height overnight, but once started all was up and good soon after... and no problem since !

These cars are stuffed with computerised gizmos, and I'm not surprised at the odd gremlin here n there...

A good gadget is an OBD plug-in tester from e-bay for about £65, and it will often give you a good clue as to whats going on when you get warnings on the dash.

Electrical stuff & all considered, My 2004 X5 is the best machine I've ever owned.
