Auto gearbox problems

I have a very well maintained 2002 3.0d with 140.000 miles on the clock. I had a gearbox service 18 months ago and the car has been running great. Last month the engine started to run a little rough and after taking it into my local bmw service center (not a main dealer) it was found that one of the injectors was faulty. This was replaced and everything seemed fine. Now though the car is unsure when to change from 4th into 5th around 35mph and feels as though something is holding it back. Put your foot down and the problem goes away. The garage have re set the gear box settings to the original factory settings and there are no fault codes showing up.

Am I about to have a very expensive problem on my hands?

Mine used to do this even when it was fine.  It seems to be (on mine at least) a point at which the box isn't sure of whether to stay in 4th or change to 5th - at which point it promptly changed back to 4th again!  It also depended upon the engine temp and air temp too.

Faulty injector AND a gearbox problem.......

No i didn't start another username.....!!!!
O:-)

Try it in manual mode for a bit to see if it holds gears correctly, and that the lock up clutch works
(Need in 5th at over 55 mph. - Lift foot and then accelerate.  Engine revs should not race up)

It may just be a learning issue and may sort itself out.
