Angel Eye Bulb replacement

Post by rickyclean » Sun Sep 27, 2015 12:36 pm

Hi All

I am having a bit of a nightmare, The nearside angel eye bulb has died and I am having a nightmare trying to access the bulb. I have e been on numerous guides and youtube tutorials and all instructs simply do not match the arrangement I seem to have. All guis show easy access which I do not have. All access I have to that bulb is restricted and the only visible area of access is a casing that has an alan key bolt attached to it. Non of the videos I have seen discuss this panel/casing. As mine is a 2007 model, did they improve the set up on later models to make life easier and is there a definitive guide, as the only thing I can think of is removing the bumper...

Thanks all

RC

This is an image of the back of my headlight. I believe the bulb to be behind the panel I have circled in red, am I correct?

Have you got the Halogen or Xenon headlights. ? Looks like the ones with the Halogen headlights are a mare to fit, no point searching for a how to, until we know what headlight unit you have.

I have a nasty feeling it's a bumper off job.  The HID (Xenon) version can be got at but the back of the unit looks totally different to your one.

I was in a dealership last week, and they quoted £250 to change a bulb inside a headlight unit.  I nearly wrecked the TV with a mouthful of coffee!!

That is a really poor design...these cars are designed to maximise revenue for the main $tealer workshop  :noexpression:

As are many more makes now.  Legislators and Regulators just don't want the average owner doing anything themselves.  I agree that it is a pretty poor show.

I did this, and believe me it was a pain in the rear. I ended up pulling the headlights out, replaced bulbs with Mtec v3 LEDs. After that I did X5M conversion and ran Xenon headlights, now I run LED Adaptive headlights.

My X has had a few headlights  :))

Is there a 'How to' for the LED mod?

So it's removing the headlights this weekend. I must admit this is rather shocking, but not unsurprising.... As I have to replace the tyres this weekend as well I cannot afford to replace the headlights themselves, but I think I shall at some point as it is total madness t have to remove the lights to change a bulb....

Once the LED's are fitted they should have a longer life than the Halogen bulbs, so you shouldn't need to change the headlights.
hope the job goes well, don't forget to do a " wow too for anyone else having the same problem at a later date .
