Door mirror

After the overwhelming response to my misfire thread I thought I would pick your brains again.
My door mirrors are powered. The driver side doesnt fold in when the button is pressed (thats another thing to look at) but the passenger mirror does. However, when it goes back to the normal position it is still slightly loose- just enough than when the door is closed the mirror is never in the same position. There is about 25mm of movement at the outer edge of the mirror. I know that it will equate to verry little movement at the motor end. I have just taken it all to bits and I cant find any slack in the worm gears at all and they are not damaged.
Has anyone had this issue? Anyone know a fix? Thanks.

Its a well known issue which should be covered somewhere here......try searching. Usual culprit is a microswitch failure.  Dealers want to change entire mechanism which is very pricey but there are some folk on here who have repaired the microswitch issue and all is well again. Hopefully they will come by soon to explain how!

Check the microswitch but on mine it was actually the gearing housing (which again is a common issue) that had snapped in two.

Well lo and behold- it seems to be working ok now. I don't know why. I took the driver side apart today and the motor doesn't spin when button on door is pressed. Rain stopped progress but I will strip it right down when I get chance to check power and little gears. Got to have folding mirrors.

I totally stripped the mirror apart today. The motor spins via the button. The gears are ok. The microswitch is located correctly and works. When its all together it wont fold. I can fold it by hand so its not jammed. Stumped now...

Did you try loading the motor when you had it apart??

Could be a dodgy motor / brushes that only manifests itself under such loading

Ive been fiddling again. If i press the button and push the mirror it folds in and straight back out whereas the passenger side stays folded in. Ideas?
