replacing exhaust manifold & turbo gasket

Guys,

I got a leak in the gasket between the exhaust manifold & turbo...
Lots of soot around the gasket area & loud whistle from the turbo too...
Not lost any noticeable power... but its been blowing since I bought her.. so I wouldnt know I guess..

I bought a replacement manifold & all studs, nuts & gaskets for the job too.

Keep starting the job, but have to re-assemble, due to running out of daylight or it rains...

The bit that is eluding me is...
Cannot get the lower chunk of the air filter off...
Got the filter, the injector wire rail harness support off....
But there is some thing holding this bloody plastic lump on, & i dont want to break anything...

The manifold & turbo live under this filter case... just cant get the damned thing off...

Any one got a you-tube link for the job or pics of whats keeping this lower filter cover in place please ??
Regards.

Reading this article that AW8 dig out for me (thank you)

Question,

In picture 3 of the original post picture trail, shows 2 rows of 6 Inlet bores...
The lower 6 appear to be the Main manifold air inlets....

What are the 6 dirty holes above ?  are they the re-breathers from the vortex crank case filter going to the main inlet..?

Sorry I can't help further - I don't have same engine and in honesty probably wouldn't tackle that myself unless I was pushed into a corner.

I accept others may reply but in absence of realoem diagrams helping you might want to PM the OP of the linked thread (since sold his car & consequently not posted for some while).

HTH :)

The extra 6 are as you suspected.  Part of the emissions control system.  On other cars with the same engine it's where the swirl flaps sit.

Many thanks X5Sport.

Re gaskets .... is it necessary to get the gaskets for the cam cover, inlet manifold joints, or the recirculation joints...?
Or will they likely be in good order ?

Do these gaskets have a specific name so I can search them out on ebay.?

Realoem for part numbers then find on fleabay.  Might be OK.  I've had the inlet manifold off our E46 twice and the gaskets were in fine fettle so I put em back.
