Does anyone have any isdea why the rear hatch keeps unlocking on the wifes e53? I removed the handle/ light part the other day but it one of the newer sealed ones. Can these be dismantled to get at the microswitch?
This morning it was 11 times before it stayed locked and as you can imagine I get it in the earhole from Mrs Irrate..

Are you actually hearing the locking actuator operate, or is it just popping open??

It could just need an adjustment on the striker arm to allow it to lock in correctly??

No, if the tailgate is held open a bit I can hear the lock clicking like it was being unlocked with the key.

You can unplug the boot release switch unit by unscrewing it and just whip it off the back.
That would discount that..

It could be a wiring issue in the part of the loom that goes across the hinges.
That is a known weak point in earlier BMWs and worth just checking all cores are OK??

The switch doesn't open the hatch when pressed anyway. The only way to open it is key or button on dash. I did take the unit off the other week and tried to separate it but gave up as I ran out of time - well she wanted to go handbag shopping.. My X5 has the older type where the micro switch is easily accessible.
