Ongoing fuel gauge problems.

So I thought my sender unit was stuffed due to inaccurate gauge readings (lh sender was reading full when full (55 ltrs) but getting no lower than 33.8 ltrs regardless of how much fuel was in that side of the tank.

Replaced that sender (original part was smashed at the pivot) and all good for one tank. Refilled and now it's playing the same game (this time stopping at 38.2 ltrs).

Pulled the sender, it's smashed at the pivot - again.

The only reason I can compute is that the tank is pressurising and collapsing in on the sender unit, breaking it.

Now, my question is, which part is responsible for controlling venting to the charcoal cannister? I've had a look at the OEM diagrams and it's not clear to me.

Is there a vent, or is the cannister itself stuffed??

I've not got any codes that would indicate a problem but not sure if a stuffed breather would trigger something.

Also, I have no problems filling up at all.

Any suggestions??

If i understand you well, i have simillar problem in mine E53. When tank is full, gauge shows full, but if gauge is almost empty, gauge shows that fuel litres are close to half of tank, so in example if factually is 5-10 ltrs fuel in tank, gauge shows around ~30 ltrs. Gauge not showing lower than ~30 litrs.

Correct. I've done over 600k's on this tank and OBC shows 46 (+\- 3) litres remaining.

LH sender is static (last 200 odd k's) at 38.2 litres with very minor fluctuation only when cornering.

I had similar once, but battery disconnection and re-connect sorted it..
Gauge then read correctly.
