Hi guys

I`m new to the forum, I have a 51 plate E53, only owned it about 6 months.

But I have a fault that has occurred only twice, so far. But me and the local mechanic are stumped by it.

Like I say on 2 occasions the drivers door handle (Interior and Exterior) has stopped working, like there is nothing attached to it.  So straight away we were thinking along the lines of cable etc etc.  But a couple of days later it then works, is it a safety feature? Am I doing something wrong?

The central locking mechanism works as it should, when pulling the interior handle it unlocks it from locked.

The two times it has happened I have driven from work to my first training session as I am a football coach, I then drive 2-3 miles to take the next session and when returning to the car I am locked out, except all the other doors work as they should.

Really frustrating, please help.....

Can be a pita thou......

Seems similar to when you lock the car with the key fob. Ie, car in deadlock mode.

Are you sure the other doors work when this happens?

Tried pressing the unlock button in the centre console?

Tried unlocking the car with the key fob?

Thanks for the replies

Yes Jay I have tried all combinations on the key and the centre console including double clicks....

Does it have a body computer that would cause this to happen?  And I don't know why it would happen on only the day I told you about in the original post

Could it be that the actuator is on it's way out?

It will be a rusty pivot on the inside of the door behind the latch. You need to remove the door panel and air bag then grease the pivot to allow the return spring to work. I used a model kit paint brush to reach in. Search E53 door won't open in Google and there is a how to somewhere.
