Hi all,

New to the forum.
Have had a new 1 series since last year which the Mrs drives most of the time and bought myself a X5 (E53) 4.4 Sport for my daily commute which is only a few miles.
Thought it would be handy to have the big motor and I like things with plenty power :-)

Car's in excellent shape for the year, not a scratch and full service history.
Has got a few niggles though that are down to age.

ABS light is on - garage diagnosed, no signal from driver rear speed sensor.
Replaced sensor but still coming on 50% of the time, and same error.
It back in the garage today to further diagnose, looks like connection between sensor and ABS comp, hopefully not an expensive one...

PDC - beeeeeeeep! doesn't work. Diag again and middle front driver sensor.
Garage quoted me £180! so bought one on eBay and fitted myself for £10.
Still beeping though, hoping it's just needing the error reset, get that done today.
If not, looks like wiring...

Rear washer doesn't work, not that bothered about this too much but looks like pump, fuse is ok.

Passenger door lock doesn't always come up - need to take the door card off and grease the lock probably, will do that when I have time and clips arrive.

Steering wheel squeaks - This is really annoying! I've tried some silicone lube around the wheel and tried to spray the shaft under the wheel to no avail.
Might be the clock spring... which doesn't sound like fun...

That's about it and all the other stuff works great and really love the car.

Any hints on the above issues would be much appreciated and to happy to join the forum :-)

Hi and welcome along. Enjoy your ride and although you seem to have a few age related issues you seem capable of getting them sorted easily enough. Feel free to post a few pics.

So some developments:

ABS sensor didn't fix the problem, garage reckons it must be the wheel bearing, the magnetic strip is broken.
So need to fork out for that now after replacing a sensor I probably didn't need. Might even still turn out not to be that which would be a nightmare...

The parking sensors are a mystery... replaced the one that was showing up the fault, still not working.
The fault code is now different but still shows same sensor. Something about open circuit?
Stranger still, if we use real-time monitoring only 4 out of the 8 sensors show any reading having a walk round the car.
More than one sensor out? or is this sensor causing the rest problems?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Parking sensors...
this is not uncommon.

previously, I've had 3 sensors to swap out... and right now, none of them seem to work..
happy to swap numbers & see if we can swap notes to fix these issues..

Cars eh... gotta love them

Yeah it's a pain mate.
Did you just replace with cheap sensors off of eBay?
Also did you read the error codes?

Hi Virgil,

Please explain how to pull up the error codes & which specific sensors are playing up ?

Re e-bay replacement parts... being inbthe spare parts business in the past... the cheap ebay parts will MOST likely be frombthe same source as the OEM replacements...
and odd as it seams... IF they are ripp-offs they are often a better product lol

That's good info mate, cheers. Mechanic in the garage has got delphi diag software, thats where the codes are coming from. Only says issue with middle driver right but on live diag only 4 seem to respond... Was getting 'no signal' or similar after replacing the error is 'open circuit's but think it still says 'no signal'
