I'm trying to buy some transfer box oil for my facelift 2004 3.0d x5 and I don't know if my car has x-drive

Should it have? The main dealers tell me only the newer cars have it

Cheers guys

Remind me what year it is.

Think it came in with the facelift models, so 2004.

All factory facelift E53's have xdrive.......& I would be concerned if a dealer discussing fluid changes didnt know that.

You wont get a stamp in the book for anything other than engine oil changes so I would personally use a reputable indy who knows more re the car & correct fluids.

As above.....and find another Dealer!  They probably think because it hasn't got Xdrive on the side, it hasn't got it!  Idiots. >:(

Indeed.  Just ask them if they know what an ATC500 is.  You have one and it's the code for the Xdrive unit.

As said all have X-drive, oil is not one that is routinely changed (think it's one of those BMW  'lifetime oil' gimmicks)

If you scan for errors and if you find 'oil abrasion' logged you need an oil change.

Thank you so much for this information, I have a 2006 'facelift' 3.0d Sport and had no idea.  :noexpression:

Yes.  It's a facelift version.  ALL face lifts have it.

The 3.0i got everything in the facelift except the ZF 6-sp box.  My dealer told me at the time that then engine 'wasn't up to running with the 6-so box'.  Load of spherical objects!  It was BMW regarding that car as the entry model - no matter how well specced.

Thanks for your patience and generosity of spirit - it must get a bit boring, answering the same questions again and again.
