Skiing 2016

Post by mogsyman » Sat Mar 05, 2016 5:48 pm

I'm off to Montgenevre at Easter with about 12 other friends and we're driving, I'm looking forward to a good long cruise in the X3 to see how it performs fully loaded.

Anyway, managed to get 5 days away last weekend with 3 mates to Les Houches which as some may know is a stone's throw from Chamonix. Had a great time up and down the valley and aside from a couple of shite days where we couldn't see further than the end of our skis (and I mean it was bad!) we managed to get some good skiing done.

I have purchased a TomTom bandit camera and put together a little movie of our exploits and would welcome critique of the film. Rather disappointingly the camera seemed to suffer form a little moisture which was quickly resolved but has left one or two shots looking as if there's a halo on the edges  :(

Anyway, as said please feel free to comment and I'm looking forward to getting some more shots in a few weeks time to continue playing with iMovie.

It appears that due to music copyright reasons I have had to remove the video  :'(

Can you not put acknowledgements into both the movie credits and covering text of YouTube?  May depend on the artiste/label as some are kinder than others.

Still if it was S Club 7 there are limits..... :P

Yep, S Club 7 simply won't be associated with my skiing video  :(

I've changed the music to royalty youtube approved free shite and I'm uploading again now.

I await abuse.......

Not too shabby......apart from the music of course.  It's a bit like 'How It's Made' gone weird!

Looks like you had some fun  :)

Thanks

My first attempt at video editing and using iMovie makes it very easy - the most difficult part being trawling through loads of footage to try and find interesting moments to use  :-[

The basic premise most of us who either have or still do editing is a ratio of 8:1, so I know what you mean.  It gets worse when adding fades/transitions/graphics/titles etc.

I use Pinnacle Studio for the simple stuff (it includes royalty free soundtrack tools) and the Adobe Premiere suite for the better stuff.  Adobe's learning curve is vertical for a long while!

Eeerrrrrr......8:1 ???

I've had a look at Pinnacle but that's a Windows only program and I use a Mac, I'll also have a look at Adobe Premiere Suite shortly.

I think Adobe may be monthly subscription only now.  It was also PC only when I bought the full CS6 suite, and was over £2,500!  The suite contains a lot of stuff needed for sound, after effects, special effects, web converters, web site tools, Flash, HTML5 etc etc etc.  Not really aimed at 'home' users.

For the Mac you want Final Cut Pro if you are going to get serious.  And get a Mac Pro too.  You need serious horsepower when playing with HD at full rate, more if you ever want to go 4K.

I don't use most of the Professional stuff now as I don't have time any more.

I suspect for my needs iMovie will do a fine job.

The video uploaded to YouTube was 2 hour attempt and I'm not scratching what iMovie will do, overlaying clips etc.

Looks like you guys had great fun and great weather with good snow.  A little work required on your technique  ;) you are a little stiff and turning with your hips rather than letting the skis do the work.  If you need a personal instructor next time you're skiing, give me a shout.  : :)
