Hi all, just bought myself a 2003 X5 3.0d and thought I would join this site as it seems to be full of helpful people

Anyways, the car has covered 115k will full history for some reason it had a new turbo at 55k and another one at 113k??

Problem with it is, it's very flat at set off and low speeds but when it's up and going it's pretty nippy.
Also, noticed upon starting the other morning it was running abit lumpy with a little bit of white smoke not loads just abit. Has anyone had this issue? If so any information regarding it would be greatful.

Thanks

Could be failing pre-heaters/glow plugs?

Unusual for two turbo failures, but that could be down to driving style, or blocked crankcase breather problems which the car suffered from.  The early type looks like a foam 'bog roll' and blocks very easily resulting in over pressure and turbo problems.  It can (and should) be replaced with a vortex type that doesn't block.

There are how to's on here and it isn't a difficult job for DIY if you are that way inclined  :)

Thank you for the reply, yeh I can't understand why it's had the turbo done twice, but I will look for that I'm pretty handy with tools to a certain extent haha.

Hi just an update today I had a look at the car, stripped out the air filter housing and engine cover to see if there was anything noticeable ie lose connection split pipe, but couldn't see anything any ways put it all back together and now it's goes like a rocket? Don't know what I've done but it's sorted something out haha

Could simply be a loose clamp, even if it felt tight, and that caused an air leak.
