Definately a jammed ppen thermostat.
I had exactly the same issue last year.

you will probably need so E-Torx sockets... a small set of 6 or 7 on a strip is about £7 on Flea-Bay.
Check the bolt ends...a Hex wont do it, and they only need a gentle nip up when tightening !

Has anyone got a picture of the thermostat housing? I am thinking mine is sticking slightly as it dips a little on a run.

Merci buckets  :)

So I changed the thermostat on Saturday .. it was stuck open not by much but obviously enough to cause problems
before the x5 would run badly on lpg with multiple fault codes and hesitation / misfires
now she's silky smooth and pulls like a train

I have to admit to some embarrassment because I've been chasing this fault for the 6 months I've owned the car and have changed 90% of sensors all the ignition coils etc

still at least she's running well now so i can get on and enjoy owning her

Guys, whereabouts is this housing, feel stupid as it looks sizable but can't seem to find it in the engine bay
